download bars used to be so last season...

I have seen the download bar used in so many terrible ads. An icon of the internet, the download bar has been wallpapered across anything from cable internet to well, telephone internet. Ever so cliched and expected.

But these... well, these are the best I have seen using the download bar.  And a little TnA never hurts to sex up would could be a boring execution. But its a smart idea. Its clever. Cyber geeks and their fashionista housewives now something to talk about.

Seriously, the Video is Killed.

This is literally the Internet Killed the Video Star.

I believe we are on the cusp of something amazing. The dissemination of information as we know it is changing quickly, drastically, and somewhat impredictably. And this is a wagon I am going to hop onto aggressively, I want to be a part of this someway somehow.

Honestly... social news is going to be the bigget?? Wowee.

A big thank you to Vicki for sending this along... she's always making me smarter.

Internet Killed the Video Star - Thursday

This is the new Chanel No5 perfume movie/ad.
A bit of a fine smelling stalkerish delight. non?
This is my mum's perfume. :)

Family Brand - the Novogratzes

“maybe this family is a symbol of our new polyfunctional world, where there is no separation between work and home, public and private. Who knows what the new rules will be?”

I came across an article on the Novogratzes family in the New York Times. They are a family with 7 kids, and 2 parents who love to buy buildings (old gun shops, S&M dens etc.) and re-store/re-build them. They have purchased/flipped/lived in 11 homes. They have been doing this for years, and now they are signed on with Bravo for a 'reality-biographic' series...and the whole family has been signed to the Ford modeling company for sponsorship/promotional opportunties.

Wasting my Pretty

Once a week Kanye posts his fave lady click here. He started it when he broke up with his GF. I think they are pretty funny. Here are a few... and likely the only ones not with full-ass shots.

My friend Margot once said: Jessica, don't waste your pretty on him.
I like this piece of advice. Margot can sometimes speak in a language all her own, but every once in a while she comes up with a real gem of a statement. This one is a keeper.
Lately, I feel as though I am Wasting my Pretty.
Pretty is a Privledge, not a right. And I am not interested in wasting it on the non-appreciative...hey Kanye: Where are you yeezy??

Fail Harder

This video is from WK12. Wieden + Kennedy's ad school students.
A great example of taking the long way and the right way.

This weekend I saw a documentary film called Art + Copy.

But what I want to share is that somewhere deep inside of me I wanted to scream when I watched Art + Copy. I wanted to scream so loud. I want to scream out of frustration, out of love and out of passion. All I want to do is work on amazing beautiful wonderful brilliant bone tingling ideas, and I feel like I am just a rat in a cage. I am not what you would call a creative. I am more of what you could call a suit, or a client.  But what I do know is that I am smart and I am dialed into what is a good idea, how to sell it and how to build on it. I believe in creative genius. I believe that I can come up with an idea that 80%, (and likely 110% better than alot of shit out there), but it is when you give that 80% idea to a brilliant creative mind and they come back with an idea that is 200%, that's the beauty piece. And when you know it. You cherish it. You compare everything else to that experience. But I guess what makes me want to scream is that I am scared. I am scared that one day I will never work on the Nike masterpiece that I aspire to. Or if I do, I would never get credit for it. I was once told a suit is never really part of the creative process. I am scared that I might never be taken seriously because I am not in a creative department. I am scared to share my perspective. And I feel sorry for the person who doesn't want my perspective because they aren't open enough to hear it. But at the same time I am scared that I might not be liked for not liking someone else's work, or for thinking they didn't think hard enough.  It is a dark but colorful masochistic place that I am in. Its hard for me, because I am certainly no shrinking violet. And I do my best to be open minded, to digest, to think before I speak, and to be sensitive in my feedback and gushing in my praise. I come from nowhere but a genuine place. But when you want something so bad, or when you love something so much it makes you vulnerable.  Honesty is hard, both to be and to take.
I want to work on amazing ideas. I want to be part of something game changing.
Somebody has to do it, why can't it be me?
I just don't know where to start.

1984 make-over

The timing of consumer research is critical.
For optimal benefit and usage, I believe that the research should come before the creative brief is written, not after in order to test the creative concept.

Arnold did post-concept testing of TBWA's infamous Apple spot. It actually won a pencil at the 2008 One Show.
Imagine if Apple did the research, and took the feedback:
